Google Photos adds a new way to rediscover memories, adds new features in latest update

Google Photos anniversary
At the tail-end of May, Google officially announced Photos, a new cloud-based storage option that allows users to have access to unlimited storage, and “Creations,” which bring collages, animations and more for users to show off.
Now, Google’s announced a new way to privately reminisce with old photos, which is completely opt-in right from the start. With the new feature, Photos will notify users when a photograph’s, or series of photos’, anniversary has come around. This will let Photos users see what they were doing a certain amount of time in the past, like a hiking trip or a birthday.
The new features will bring up collages, animations and more that are all focused on the past event. The Photos Assistant will notify you of the anniversary and/or event, and let you see the creations that Photos has created to celebrate the occasion:
By opting in, you’ll get cards in the Assistant view reminding you of photos from events in your past, including a collage featuring people and places from that day. Share with whoever you want, however you want, whether that’s via email, a social network, or by showing the person next to you. Or savor the moment for yourself; it’s completely private until you decide to share.
The new feature should be available now as an opt-in offer.
Additionally, Photos recently received an update on August 20 that boosted the version number up to 1.2.0. With this, Photos users can now change their album covers, share animations directly to Facebook, and even save animations as videos so that they can be shared to other services, including WhatsApp and Instagram. Here’s the full breakdown:
    What’s New in Version 1.2.0
  • Change the cover photo of your albums
  • Share animations directly to Facebook
  • Save animations as videos to share to Instagram, Whatsapp, and more
  • Rediscover this day in your past
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements
The update is available now, and a link to the app is down below for those that haven’t tried out Photos yet.
