Pair of unidentified iPhones found in analytics data, suggests an iPhone 6c might not launch this year

Earlier on August 11, a report surfaced that suggested Apple would be launching three new iPhones in 2015: the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the iPhone 6c.
However, if new analytics data is any indication of what’s coming down the Apple pipeline, those looking forward to the smaller iPhone may have to keep waiting. As initially reported by MacRumors, the analytics data pulled from marketing platform Fiksu have revealed two new, previously unidentified iPhone models. The data shows them as “iphone8,1″ and “iphone8,2.” To compare, the identifiers for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were “iphone7,2″ and “iphone7,1,” respectively.
The data also shows that there were 87 unique “iphone8,1″ devices, while 67 unique “iphone8,2″ models were discovered in the data. Unfortunately, those are the only two unit identifiers that the company could find, which would seem to be a strong indicator that a third model, the oft-rumored iPhone 6c, isn’t being tested right now. Following that trail of breadcrumbs would also seem to suggest that if the iPhone 6c isn’t being tested now, then it stands to reason that Apple doesn’t have plans on launching the device later this year.
Rumors regarding the “cheaper” iPhone 6c are all over the place at this point, with, as mentioned above, some suggesting it could launch in 2015, while other reports say that Apple doesn’t want to cannibalize sales of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus with the “c” model. Other rumors suggest Apple will launch an “iPhone 7c” in 2016, or that the iPhone 6c could show up in the second quarter of 2016. As it stands right now, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are the only sure things, as far as unannounced Apple sure things go. The likelihood of an iPhone 6c showing up this year is growing thinner, though.
Apple is rumored to be launching its September event on the ninth of that month, where the company is said to be prepared to unveil the new iPhones, new iPads, and a brand new, heavily upgraded Apple TV.
