Rdio makes 460 AM/FM radio stations available for streaming

The Rdio app on iPhone
In an effort to fend off competition from Apple Music and other rivals, Rdio is today rolling out 460 traditional AM/FM radio stations that will be available for streaming inside its iOS apps.
All of the stations that will be offered through Rdio are owned and operated by Atlanta-based Cumulus Media Inc., and they include the likes of KLOS-FM (95.5) in Los Angeles and KFOG-FM (104.5) in San Francisco, as well as talk radio and sports shows, Los Angeles Times reports.
Until now, Rdio — like Spotify and many other music streaming services — has offered only music, but thanks to Apple Music, they are now looking at ways in which they can add services that can compete with Beats 1.
Rdio is turning to traditional radio stations, and the company is hoping that this move won’t just appeal to music fans who want to enjoy radio shows, but also radio listeners who haven’t yet adopted a music streaming service.
“If you’ve read the tech press over the last few months, you’d think the tech business invented radio,” Rdio’s chief executive, Anthony Bay, said in an interview with LA Times. “Radio is still the most widely used form of audio. There’s a big audience out there.”
Rdio users won’t just be able to enjoy radio live, but premium users who pay will also be able to download shows for later listening. Rdio is also in talks with other broadcasters and plans to add more stations to its service over the next 12 months.
