Rite Aid will start accepting Apple Pay from August 15

Apple Pay - Wells Fargo
Rite Aid today announced that its 4,600+ stores across the United States will start accepting Apple Pay and Google Wallet from August 15.
When Apple Pay launched last year, Rite Aid’s Point of Sale terminals supported the payment service without any issues. However, the retailer decided to disable support for it, which led to a huge drama. It was then believed that the retailer disabled support for Apple Pay as it wanted to promote MCX’s yet to be launched CurrentC payment system, a mobile payment consortium of which it is a member.
Nearly 10 months after Apple Pay’s launch, CurrentC is yet to make its way to the market, while Apple’s payment system is now supported by almost all the major retailers and banks in the US.
“Increasingly, consumers are actively seeking out and incorporating mobile technology into many facets of their life, including their shopping and purchasing decisions,” said Ken Martindale, CEO of Rite Aid stores and president of Rite Aid Corporation. “By accepting mobile payments, we’re able to offer Rite Aid customers an easy and convenient checkout process, which we know is important to them. Investing in mobile technologies is just one piece of Rite Aid’s evolving digital strategy and we will continue to explore, test and implement innovative technologies that will help us to better serve our valued customers.”
In addition to Apple Pay and Google Wallet, Rite Aid stores will also support Android Pay when it launches later this year, along with tap and pay debit and credit cards.
