Plex has become one of the most popular media services platforms to date, offering a way to access a wide range of content all from one spot.
With the latest update, which should be rolling out shortly, the new app has been rewritten for iOS utilizing Swift 2, Apple’s programming language. That, as 9to5Macpoints out, is the reason why this update took so long to arrive on Apple’s platform. (The last update was issued in January of this year.) But, the update also includes more than just a refreshed code and design.
The new app also features rich media browsing, which should help avid Plex users search for exactly what they’re looking for more easily. From within the app, users will now be able to look up directors, actors, related genres, and even get recommendations based on past viewing.
Rotten Tomatoes, the movie reviews aggregator, is now integrated into Plex for iOS as well, meaning it will be easier than ever before to see a movie or TV show’s rating.
The service has a freemium option, which allows users to view photos from their iOS device on another device featuring Plex (like an Xbox One). A link to the app is available below.
