Apple releases OS X El Capitan with improved performance, revamped Mission Control, and enhanced window management with Split View

As expected, Apple has just released OS X El Capitan (version 10.11) to the public, its twelfth major release of OS X, Apple’s desktop and server operating system for Macs.Update: Please read the update below.
Apple had unveiled OS X El Capitan at the WWDC Keynote in June. It comes with a new system font, San Francisco, a revamped Mission Control feature, a Split View feature that allows you to use two full-screen apps at once, new and improved Spotlight, improvements to Safari with features like Pinned Sites that allow you to keep your favorite websites open and active in your tab bar, a mute button to quickly silence browser audio in any tabs, enhanced Mail app and lots more. It also brings with it some major performance and graphical improvements that will lead to significantly better performance in day-to-day usage of the OS. It also brings Apple’s renowned Metal API to Mac allowing developers to create more graphically rich games for the OS.
The list of Macs supported by OS X El Capitan are as follows:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
