It hasn’t been the easiest road to release for the film entitled Steve Jobs, but, finally, it’s now in theaters nationwide in the United States.
The film is centered around three acts, or three device launches, eventually culminating with the presentation that showed the world the iMac in 1998. Rather than actually focus on the presentations, or the products, the film focuses on the conversations Apple’s co-founder, Steve Jobs, had with friends, family, and colleagues before each announcement. The film’s official description suggests it is an “intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.”
It was released in a limited fashion on October 9.
Steve Jobs is directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later), written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), and it is based on the authorized biography written by Walter Isaacson. The film stars Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, with Seth Rogen taking the role of Steve Wozniak. Kate Winslet stars at Joanna Hoffman, Apple’s former marketing chief of Macintosh, and Jeff Daniels takes up the role of John Sculley, former CEO of Apple.
Now that the film is opening nationwide, Universal Pictures, the distributor of the film (after Sony handed it off) has launched a quick four minute video that has some of the cast and crew discussing the film, but also the Jobs legacy that he left behind. You can watch it below.
It’s worth noting that while the film has been garnering a metric ton of praise from moviegoers, dating back to its festival run, it has not been so highly regarded from individuals that knew Steve Jobs on some personal level. Specifically, just recently, legendary technology reviewer Walt Mossberg stated that the Steve Jobs he knew is not the Steve Jobs that’s present in the film.
