Samsung tries too hard to be Apple with embarrassing PR stunt

Trevor Bauer Samsung tweet
Samsung’s latest bid to be just like Apple failed embarrassingly when the South Korean company tried to imitate the baseball ransom note Tim Cook showed off duringWWDC last week. Of course, this time around the note demanded a bunch of Samsung products, but it was tweeted from an iPhone.
Cook kicked off last week’s keynote — which brought previews of iOS 9, OS X 10.11 El Capitan, watchOS 2, and Apple Music — by showing off a baseball ransom note. It was written by the Kansas City Royals, who wanted a bunch of Apple gear in return for the ball Brandon Moss hit for his 100th homer on June 2.
The list included iPads, MacBook Airs, iPhones, and Apple Watches. Cook announced Apple would provide the Royals with everything they demanded — and it got a big cheer from the WWDC audience. Samsung wanted some of that cheer for itself, it seems.Earlier this week, Cleveland Indians baseball player Trevor Bauer sent a tweet to Francisco Lindor of the Columbus Clippers that read, “We have your ball. @indians Ballpen settled for @tim_cook Apple products but we want @samsungmobileus.”
The Indians’ requests included a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, a Gear S smartwatch, a Gear Fit fitness tracker, and the new Galaxy S6 edge. The only problem is, Bauer sent the tweet from an iPhone.
Samsung is yet to admit it was behind the stunt, but no one does failed celebrity endorsements quite like Samsung. The company famously paid Ellen DeGeneres to appear on stage with a Galaxy Note 4 when she hosted the Oscars, but the rest of the tweets she published that night came from an iPhone.
