In the middle of July, it was reported that production of the Pebble Time Steel had begun, with distribution set to take place later in the month.
And it would appear that Pebble is right on time, with the Pebble Time Steel heading to distribution centers at the end of July. According to plan, the high-end Pebble Time variant will begin shipping to backers within the first week of August, with notifications sent to appropriate inboxes letting customers know just when they will be able to strap the smartwatch to their wrist.
A key difference has been made on Pebble’s end, though. While the company initially intended on including the steel band with initial shipments of the Pebble Time Steel, with later shipments getting the metal band at a later date, it appears that Pebble has had to adjust that plan due to supply issues, and that the steel band will be shipped separately — no matter when the backer ordered:
- All Pebble Time Steel backers will receive a leather band and matching metal band with their watches. The only change is the timing of the metal band delivery, due to the supply issues we mentioned.
- Pebble is covering the shipping costs related to this revised delivery plan.
- If metal band availability improves, we will take metal Time Steel bands and include them with reward watches in one shipment as originally planned, whenever possible.
Either way, backers of the Pebble Time Steel should look forward to getting their watch, with at least the leather band equipped, soon enough.
Of course, for those that don’t want the Pebble Time Steel, Best Buy began selling the lesser-priced Pebble Time not too long ago.
