Recently, rumors surfaced that Yahoo was building its own messaging application that would launch for mobile devices at some point in the future.
Those rumors have become reality, as Yahoo has officially unveiled its brand new messaging app called LiveText. And, as the name suggests, there’s a bit of a twist to the service. Instead of just being an option for sending quick videos, or just being another tool that offers a way to send text messages to people, this is a blend of both.
With LiveText, users will be able to send live-streaming video to folks, while also engaging in a text-based conversation with the person on the other end of the connection. It’s an interesting combination, as the video is silenced, and the conversation must rely solely on the text input, but users will be able to see the reaction of the person in real-time, which should be interesting.
LiveText was initially soft-launched in places like Ireland and Hong Kong, but it will soon be making its debut in the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and France.
“Yahoo Livetext puts your words and your friend’s real-time reactions at the center of your conversation. Whether you’re watching Avicii DJ at the Creamfields Festival, at Venice Beach or taking in the view from the Eiffel Tower, you can spontaneously connect with the people you care about and invite them to experience moments with you. Your friend’s goofy look or giant smile, even her eye roll or silent sigh, suddenly become a part of your conversation. Simple conversations are transformed into vivid, authentic and memorable experiences that you can share anytime.“[via Yahoo]Like this post? Share it!
