Microsoft Cortana is now available on your Mac — long before Siri — thanks to the latest Parallels 11 update, which lets you run Windows 10 and Windows applications on your Mac alongside existing OS X software.
Parallels is a lot like other visualization clients in that it lets you run other operating systems on your Mac inside virtual machines. So instead of having to boot into Windows in Boot Camp, you can simply open Parallels and access any Windows app you need.
But one of Parallels’ best and most unique features is Coherence mode, which puts Windows apps right alongside your Mac apps in OS X, rather than in a separate window. That means you can use Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant that’s baked into OS X, on your Mac’s desktop.
Parallels 11 for OS X makes its debut today, and also boasts a whole host of performance improvements, alongside full support for Windows 10. It also includes a new “travel mode” that promises to be gentler on your battery life.
Parallels 11 is priced at $80, but Parallels 9 and Parallels 10 users can upgrade for just $50. Download it now from the Parallels website.
