Every year, the networks in the United States try to win people over with marketing that paints them as the best, with plenty of buzzwords to keep attention long enough for a quick TV spot.
With prices for mobile carriers so competitive these days, and with carriers ditching two-year contracts to depend on leasing programs, finding the best possible network in the area where you live is just as important as the phone itself these days. That’s why RootMetrics, an independent testing firm, rolls its vehicles out all across the United States to test the networks out in the real world, whittling down how the companies really fare when it comes to voice calls, text and data performance.
As noted by Re/code, the latest results from the testing firm aren’t that much different from the past efforts, but there is one bit of good news for Verizon Wireless and Sprint subscribers. For the former’s subscribers, the Big Red carrier has retained its top spot in the United States when it comes to network quality, winning a total of 512 rewards from the firm.
Sprint subscribers may be dismayed to hear that it took fourth in the final tally of rewards, netting only 180, but the RootMetrics testing teams did note that the Now Network is seeing some noteworthy gains in network coverage across the United States — so at least the carrier is moving in the right direction. Compare that to T-Mobile, which netted 221 Magenta rewards, which RootMetric says is still trailing well behind in its rural network coverage for those in the United States.
Perhaps the most unsurprising placement was AT&T, which earned its second place placard with 441 rewards.
Which carrier do you subscribe to, and are you happy with the network?
