The iPhone 6s, and the iPhone 6s Plus, are the “S” variant, meaning there are plenty of similarities from the current models of Apple’s smartphone.
And while that’s the same this year, too, there are plenty of differences — and they seem to be making a complete package that makes this particular “S” variant stand out much more than previous generations. Several different publications got to mess around with the iPhone 6s in some capacity or another, and the first impressions are starting to file in:
“Things get interesting when you turn the Phone 6s on. 3D Touch takes a little mental rejigging: I’m used to thinking in terms of “long-press” not “firm-press”. Once you’re familiar, though, it’s clear to see this could be the iPhone 6s’ most enduring feature.”
“What most people will pay attention to is the new 3D Touch technology, which is capable of discerning between a light tap and a hard press. This new feature will allows users to Peek and Pop into apps and other functions; Peek at an address in Maps, or quickly look at a photo on Instagram. Or you Pop into an app and quickly take care of business.”
“At least, not until you press a little harder on the Camera icon. That’s when you get 3D Touch, which is what’s really worth talking about. 3D Touch basically enables the phone to measure not just when you move your finger up and down, left and right, but now also through. When you press a little harder, you get what’s called “Peek”—a pop-up of the contents of an email, or the status of a flight, or a quick way to call the business you’re tapping on in Maps. Press more, and you “Pop.” That’s when you jump to a new place in the operating system. You can press on icons on the homescreen, too, and jump straight to the selfie cam or call your mom without ever actually opening the Phone app.”
This is the best hands-on impression of the iPhone 6s by popular YouTuber, MKBHD. He gives a close-up look at how the 3D Touch feature works.
Now that the first impressions are starting to paint a general picture, especially with the inclusion of 3D Touch, are you looking forward to Apple’s next iPhone?
