One of the new features of iOS 9 is the back to app shortcut which appears in the top left corner of the Status bar and allows you to switch back to the original app from where you were redirected. These app links or breadcrumbs provide a quicker method of multitasking as you don’t need to open the App Switcher to switch back to the previous app.
As we had mentioned in our iOS 9 review, the implementation of the feature is quite smart; as it does not take any additional screen space. But one of the drawbacks is that the “Back to app” shortcut covers the carrier and the Wi-Fi signal indicators, so it can get a little annoying when you’re in a place where the Wi-Fi or cellular signal isn’t good, and you want to check the signal to figure out if the issue is with the app or website or with your data connection.
If you’ve come across such situations then check out BreadcrumbsAway, a new jailbreak tweak that lets you dismiss the Back to App shortcut. Instead of completely disabling the feature, it lets you swipe to the left on the “Back to App” shortcut in the top left corner of the Status bar to hide the breadcrumb and see the Cellular and Wi-Fi signal indicators.
The Back to App shortcut is one of our favorite features of iOS 9, but it is nice to be able to dismiss it. Tweaks like BreadcrumbsAway and the 3D Touch tweaks again highlight the reason why we love jailbreaking.
If you’d like to give it a try, it is available for free on Cydia’s Bigboss repo and supports iOS 9 only.
