Teardown reveals new 21.5-inch 4K iMac comes with a soldered CPU and RAM; lacks a secondary Fusion Drive connector

21.5-inch iMac teardown
Less than a couple of days after Apple unveiled the new 21.5-inch iMac with a 4K resolution display, the folks over at iFixit have gone ahead and torn it down to reveal all its innards.
Internally, the iFixit found that the chassis of the new 21.5-inch iMac looks largely the same as its predecessor, with Apple only making minor modifications to better secure the radio antennas.
The teardown does reveal that the 4K Retina Display on the iMac is supplied by LG, while Texas Instruments provides a plethora of voltage regulators for the mainboard.

Sadly, the teardown reveals that the RAM and CPU are soldered to the logic board, so there is no way for you to upgrade them in the future. Additionally, the logic board lacks a Fusion Drive connector, so there is no way for you to replace the extremely slow 1TB 5400 RPM HDD on the all-in-one.
In the end, iFixit gives the new 21.5-inch iMac a repairability score of 1 out of 10. It notes that opening the iMac is not too difficult with the right tools as you only need to cut the tape open, but then reassembling the PC back will require the tape to be completely replaced.
