Some iPhone 6s owners may have been forced to replace their first device with another, and unfortunately for many the restore process isn’t going so well.
According to several different reports within Apple’s Support Community for the iPhone 6s, and as initially discovered by AppleInsider, many iPhone 6s owners are experiencing an issue with some of their data missing after they’ve restored their replacement iPhone. On top of that, some owners are also pointing to a loss of Health data, or even Safari browsing data, after restoring from iCloud.
What’s causing the issue is still unknown at this point. However, many have pointed out that the issue could be that the older device has been updated to iOS 9.0.1 or even iOS 9.1, but the replacement handset is running iOS 9.0 out of the box, which could be causing the issue in restoration of data.
Other suggestions, though, point to corrupt backups and restoration files from Apple’s iCloud service.
As far as a fix goes, there’s nothing definitive as of the time of this writing. Some have suggested to make sure that the old phone and the new iPhone are on the same software version before restoring the new handset with the old information. But, with many situations the old phone isn’t available, so that process might simply not be an option.
Apple support has told those within the thread, which has over 3000 views at this point, that Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. However, no timeline has been provided as to when that fix might arrive.
