As per a reliable source of Apple Insider, Apple is reportedly working on a new scalable 3D Touch technology that will work on bigger screens like that of the iPad.
The company has been unable to scale its existing implementation of 3D Touch to the iPad Air lineup due to technological and scalability issues. The new scalable 3D Touch implementation should allow Apple to also integrate 3D Touch in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Apple is unable to scale existing 3D Touch technology to accommodate larger displays like the 9.7-inch panels used in the iPad Air line. The source, who has in the past provided accurate information about Apple’s future plans, said the company is working on a comparable technology for integration in both iPhones and iPads, potentially offering support for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple’s largest iOS device.
However, this new technology will not be ready in time for the ‘iPad Air 3’ and ‘iPhone 7.’ The former is expected to be released in March next year, while the latter will release around its usual September timeframe.
It was only yesterday that in an investors note KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple will be launching the iPad Air 3 in March 2016 without 3D Touch due to supply issues. Without 3D Touch, it will be interesting to see what changes Apple makes to the iPad Air 3 to differentiate it from its predecessor.
