Apple has today launched iPad Pro in India, where the super-sized tablet starts at Rs. 67,900 with 32GB of storage and Wi-Fi connectivity. Both 128GB variants (with and without cellular connectivity) are also available — as are Apple Pencil and the new Smart Keyboard accessory.
For a 128GB iPad Pro, customers will pay Rs. 79,000 for Wi-Fi only connectivity, or Rs. 91,900 for Wi-Fi and cellular (3G and 4G). Apple Pencil is priced at Rs. 8,600, while the new Smart Keyboard accessory is priced at Rs. 14,900.
These prices seem significantly higher than the U.S. prices when converted at today’s exchange rate, but Apple fans in India are now used to the substantial premiums that come with its products. When iPhone 6s made its debut there in October, it was more expensive in India than anywhere else in the world.
Initially, prices started at Rs. 62,000 for a 16GB model, which converted to around $955 in U.S. dollars at the time. Apple has since slashed that price to Rs. 48,499 (around $725) and launched a trade-in program on the back of weaker-than-expected demand for iPhone 6s in India.
iPad Pro can only be found offline in retail stores in India for the time being, reports iMore, but it is expected to be available online through authorized resellers soon.
