Recently, it was revealed that, on iOS, Apple Maps is used three times as much as the leading competitor, Google’s own Google Maps.
That hasn’t slowed down Google’s efforts to add new, noteworthy features into its own maps app. Recently, following a period of availability on Android, Google updated its Google Maps app to support a variety of new features, including offline navigation. This was initially announced in the beginning of November of this year, and Google has come through on adding the oft-requested feature.
Offline navigation in Google Maps is actually feature-rich in its own regard. Specifically, users that need access to offline navigation will be able to download a portion of the map they need, giving them the ability to navigate in the immediate region without needing an active connection. On top of that, users will actually be able to access other pieces of information other than navigation, including business hours, contact details, and turn-by-turn navigation works as well.
For those that use mass transit information, though, be warned: You’ll still need to be connected to the network to get information pertaining to those means of travel.
Along with the offline navigation, Google Maps for iOS has also added gas pricing for local stations. In addition, the app will also show the busiest periods of time for shoppers/customers throughout the week, so you can plan accordingly when to drop in on your trip.
Google Maps for iOS, version 4.13.0, is now available and a link is available below to download it.
