Pebble launches ‘Pebble Health’ fitness tracking for its own wearables

Pebble Health
For wearables, especially smartwatches, adding as many features as possible is one way to stand out. Fitness tracking is something that many consider standard at this point.
And while Pebble may have been the company at the head of all the wearable attention, fitness tracking wasn’t an area that it seemed to be focusing on. That’s finally changing, though, as the company has officially announced “Pebble Health,” which, as the name so aptly suggests, is a new fitness and health tracking feature for its own wearables.
(It’s also worth noting that the Pebble Classic and Classic Steel were also just updated to support Pebble’s new Timeline interface.)
Pebble states in the announcement that Pebble Health was developed along with researchers at Stanford University in the United States. With that collaboration, Pebble Health will track sleep phases, and track daily activity. Those statistics will then be displayed on the Pebble Watch you’ve strapped to your wrist, just like every other smart wearable out there (with a display to show content).
Pebble Health moving
For iOS users, Pebble Health is compatible with Apple’s HealthKit. Pebble, for its part, has plans to release the Pebble Health API at some point in the future, which will let developers build apps with Pebble Health in mind, including new watch faces.
There is a caveat, though. The original, square-shaped Pebble (Classic) and Pebble (Classic) Steel aren’t getting Pebble Health. If you want the new health/fitness tracking feature, you’ll need to pick up either the Pebble Time, the Pebble Time Steel, or the Pebble Time Round.
Did you pick a Pebble smartwatch?
