Back at the beginning of November of this year, Microsoft made a controversial announcement: Free tier OneDrive users would no longer have 15GB of cloud storage, but see it reduced to 5GB beginning next year.
That obviously didn’t carry over well with many OneDrive users out there in the wild, with many of them going as far as to sign a petition to show Microsoft that they weren’t happy about the decision. That petition actually garnered over 70,000 signatures, and apparently it was enough to get Microsoft to listen. More than that, actually change its decision.
Indeed, Microsoft has made an announcement detailing how OneDrive users can keep their 15GB of free cloud storage, and even keep the 15GB of additional storage that users gained access to by linking their device’s camera to the service, with the “Camera Roll” bonus applying to the already present 15GB of storage users had access to.
For those that want to keep their 15GB of free storage and the Camera Roll bonus, you’ll need to head through this link and follow the on-screen instructions to take advantage of Microsoft’s new offer. Essentially, after clicking the link, you’ll be asked to sign in and then you’ll see that your 15GB of free storage and the Camera Roll bonus will be unaffected by the changes Microsoft is implementing in 2016.
You’ll need to sign up by January 31, 2016.
The company is still planning a change next year to its cloud storage offerings, effectively removing the unlimited storage option altogether and dropping the free tier to 5GB. The change is set to go live in the early part of 2016, but a finalized date hasn’t been announced just yet.
Are you going to keep your 15GB of free storage if you use OneDrive?
