Apple is no stranger to acquiring companies from all over the globe, especially when those companies have some kind of connection to a feature they may implement in its own software at some point down the road.
According to a report published recently by 9to5Mac, Apple has picked up another company. This time it’s Metaio, a firm specializing in Augmented Reality software. The report indicates that the company suddenly announced that it would stop selling its services, and then a filing surfaced with the German government showcases an acquisition made by Apple in its completed stages (seen just below).
Metaio, for what it’s worth, offers six different services and all of them are based in one way or another with Augmented Reality. They range from a software development kit (SDk), to tools for businesses and even cloud services. How this could help Apple is unknown at this point, but a recent report indicated that the Cupertino-based company is testing Augmented Reality within its Maps app, so this acquisition could help with that in a big way.
You can check out Metaio’s services below, in the video provided.
