When it comes to popularity, Exploding Kittens holds its own in a big way. After making a huge splash on Kickstarter, the developers of the popular card-based party game have a new venture ahead of them.
The game with the interesting name is now available as an iOS-based card game. It’s available right now for the iPhone, and it costs $1.99. There are in-app purchases within the game, including the ability to pick up extra decks of cards to use against your friends, and more. And, in order to celebrate the release of the iOS app, all of those in-app purchases are free for a limited time. So if you plan on picking this up, now would be a good time, so you can get all of that extra content at no extra charge.
The game doesn’t have any online multiplayer, and it sounds like that’s not really on the game’s radar at this point, either. Instead, Exploding Kittens uses a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to connect up to 5 players to play the game together, all from their own devices.
The concept of the game is this: You’ll draw cards, some of which are defense cards, all while trying to avoid drawing a card that has an exploding kitten on it. If you draw that card, and you don’t have a defense card, you’ll be out of the game. The last person out of the game wins.
Exploding Kittens garnered a ton of attention during its Kickstarter run, when it became not only the most backed project on the site (219,382 backers), but also the most funded “Games” project ($8,782,571). It’s illustrated by The Oatmeal, and developed by Elan Lee.
