T-Mobile adds specific 21GB soft cap for heavy unlimited data users

T-Mobile
For some smartphone owners out there, unlimited data is still worth taking advantage of. Or, at least, having that option if it comes down to it.
And T-Mobile still offers unlimited data plans, but the Magenta Carrier has made some noteworthy alterations to its Simple Choice individual and family plans recently, as discovered by TmoNews. The carrier has made a change to its soft cap for heavy unlimited data users, making the new cap a specific 21GB. Previously, the carrier’s soft cap would de-prioritize unlimited data users that used more than 97% of the data used of other subscribers in a congested area.
*Unlimited 4G LTE customers who use more than 21 GB of data in a bill cycle will have their data usage de-prioritized compared to other customers for that bill cycle at locations and times when competing network demands occur, resulting in relatively slower speeds. See t-mobile.com/OpenInternet for details.”As noted in the footnote quoted above, for anyone in a congested area that goes over 21GB of data in their billing cycle, their data speeds will be noticeably slower as a result.
Recently, AT&T got into hot water with the FCC over misleading customers regarding throttled data speeds for its own unlimited data subscribers, so it will be interesting to see if the FCC takes note of T-Mobile’s changes.
How much data do you use every month?
