Twitter officially launched Periscope for iOS back in March, and, since then, it’s been updated a few times to add new features and tweaks. But, the biggest announcement for the app may be support for a new set-top box.
It’s expected that the Apple TV 4, which will be unveiled on September 9 at Apple’s media event, will have support for an App Store. Now, according to a report fromTechCrunch, one of the first third-party apps has been confirmed for the new box: Twitter’s Periscope. With the app for Apple TV, it’s believed that users will be able to watch the content streaming live from iOS users.
We don’t have a specific unveiling or launch date for Periscope on Apple TV. Twitter and Periscope did not respond to our inquiry before press time. The app might be previewed in tomorrow’s Apple keynote to show off the potential of the Apple TV software development kit. Apple wants to get developers’ minds swirling with ideas for what they could build.
For those unfamiliar, Periscope allows users to live stream content from their iOS (or Android) device. As it stands right now, content that’s being streamed can only be watched from that app, or from the web portal. Of course, an expansion to Apple’s next-generation Apple TV would be a big addition to Periscope and those that like to watch the content offered.
