Apple’s 2015 iMac lineup earns high scores in early Geekbench tests

New-Retina-iMacs
On October 13, Apple released a new 21.5-inch 4K iMac, and updated its lineup of 5K iMacs at the same time. Now, those new machines have started the rigorous testing process out in the world.
The Japan-based Mac Otakara has put the new iMacs through their paces through Geekbench testing, which is designed to test the overall speed and performance of machines. In the results put together by the publication, what everyone already assumed is true: the 2015 iMacs are noticeably faster than previous models of the iMac lineup, showcasing improved scores not only in the multi-core tests, but also the single-core tests.
Breaking it down, the late-2015 21.5-inch 4K iMac, which boasts a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 3.1GHz, scored a 3,787 in the 64-bit single-core test, and resulted in a 12,803 score in the multi-core testing. If you were to compare that to the late-2013 iMac, which had a processor clocked at 2.9GHz, then you’d see scores of 3,543 and 10,685, respectively.
The late-2015 non-4K 21.5-inch iMac is equipped with a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor as well, which is clocked at 2.8GHz, took the test and had a single-core score of 3,532 and a multi-core score of 11,865. The similar iMac that Apple released in 2013 showed scores of 3,175 and 10,199, respectively, based on an Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 2.7GHz.
Finally, the 27-inch 5K iMacs were benchmarked as well. The low-end model, which features a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 3.3GHz boasted a single-core score of 3,931 and a multi-core score of 12,079. The high-end 5K iMac, with its quad-core processor clocked at 3.3GHz, managed a single-core score of 4,214 and a multi-core score of 13,081.
All-in-all, Apple’s latest iMacs are powerful machines, which rings true to the reviews of the hardware that were released yesterday as well. Indeed, Apple has expressed its happiness with the progress it has made in its iMac lineage with a dedicated “Then and Now” site to showcase how far the machines have come.
Do you plan on picking one of these new iMacs up?
