T-Mobile has been revolutionising the U.S. telecom industry with its ‘un-carrier’ announcements. The company’s CEO, John Legere, recently teased the impending announcement of the ‘Un-carrier X’ on November 10 from the Magenta colored carrier.
Ruining T-Mobile’s surprise is @Evleaks, who has revealed that T-Mobile will be offering unlimited high speed data to its customers for watching streaming video services like Netflix and HBO. This means that T-Mobile customers will be able to stream their favorite TV shows and movies on their smartphone without worrying about their LTE data running out, since streaming videos will not count against their monthly data allowance.
The offer will only work with selected streaming services for now: Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Sling. T-Mobile will be calling this offer BingeOn, with all partner video services offering some kind of discount to customers as well.
T-Mobile already offers something similar for music called Music Freedom, where it allows its customers to stream music from Spotify, Google Play Music, Apple Music, Pandora, and others without burning through their LTE data cap. However, compared to music streaming, video streaming is more data intensive and will put more burden on T-Mobile’s network. It is also possible for customers to gobble up upwards of 40-50GB data per month by simply streaming movies and TV shows, which can turn out to be an expensive affair for the carrier.
