Apple has issued an apology to six Australian schoolboys who were thrown out of an Apple Store because staff feared they would steal something. The incident sparked allegations of racism, which draw criticism of Apple on social media.
Footage of the incident at Melbourne’s Highpoint shopping center was posted online earlier this week, and shows Apple Store staff asking the boys, who are all black, to leave the store because security was worried about their “presence in the store.”

When the boys questioned the decision, Apple staff said, “they’re just worried you might steal something.” The video sparked allegations of racism, and fans online called for an explanation from Apple. Shortly after, the Cupertino company apologized.
“They apologised, so we’re chilling, no need to take it further,” wrote Mohamed Semra, one of the boys involved, in a Facebook post. Apple confirmed that the store manager had apologized to both the boys, and their school principal.
