One sticking point for some over the years has been the search results in Apple’s App Stores, but according to a new report things should be looking better.
According to TechCrunch, Apple has apparently tweaked its algorithms behind-the-scenes of its App Stores in the recent weeks, and as a result has already begun returning more intelligent, and relevant, results when a keyword is used to find something therein. The find was made by several developers, including Tapbots’s Paul Haddad and Contrast’s David Barnard, who typically track their own rankings and results within the App Stores.
As a result of this find, the developers found that changes started to make their presence known at the beginning of November, and another major algorithm update landing on Thursday, November 12.
As for what’s changed, it would seem that Apple has extended the search itself to go beyond just the target keyword, and instead look at more relevant information. An example provided was “Twitter,” which, before the shift, wouldn’t typically show relevant apps to that search, like Tapbots’s Tweetbot app. Now, though, Tweetbot does show up.
According to the CEO of AppFigures, Ariel Michaeli, the App Store’s changes now means it accounts for the “essence of the app,” a new way to look at the suggestion function within the search parameters, which puts more emphasis on on-page components.
It’s good news all around that Apple is still working on improving its App Stores and search results.
Have you noticed any differences?
