At the tail-end of October, a new rumor surfaced that suggested Apple would divert from its traditional LCD panels and opt for OLED screens manufactured from Samsung in future iPhones.
These types of rumors aren’t new by any measure, as many have suggested Apple would ditch LCD and opt for OLED at some point in the displays of their popular iPhone lineup. However, in a research note recently released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is unlikely to adopt AMOLED for its iPhone displays moving forward.
Specifically, Kuo believes that Apple is not likely to bring AMOLED to its iPhone lineup anytime soon, as far out as 2018 at the very least, and it’s very unlikely that Apple will use it in its iPhone 7.
AMOLED isn’t completely out of Apple’s wheelhouse, of course, as the company recently adopted the technology into its product lineup with the Apple Watch, so it’s likely that rumors and reports regarding Apple’s future adoption of the technology in its iPhone lineup won’t go away any time soon.
