Apple today released its first app on the Google Play Store: Move to iOS. The app makes it easier for long time Android users to easily transfer their important data to their new iPhone or iPad running iOS 9.
The ‘Move to iOS’ app makes it possible to easily transfer your important data like contacts, calendar entries, messages, videos, photos, bookmarks, and mail accounts to your new iPhone or iPad. Apple has integrated the Move to iOS feature in iOS 9, so the process will not require you to install any new app on your iPhone or iPad.
During the initial setup process of your iPhone or iPad, you will get a ‘Move to iOS’ option. Simply tap on it and then enter the code being displayed on the Move to iOS app on your Android device to proceed further.
Apple says that its ‘Move to iOS’ app is compatible with all Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) or higher.
Ironically, as Gruber points out, even if Google wanted to, it could not release a similar app on the iOS App Store. This is because the App Store Guidelines 3.1 state that any “apps or metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected.”
