Samsung Pay is coming to the U.S. on September 28

Samsung Pay
Back in March, Samsung officially announced its new mobile payments option, unsurprisingly titled “Samsung Pay,” to compete with Apple Pay.
The company had said back then that the service would launch sometime in the second half of 2015, by way of the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6. That’s all true, but Samsung is also throwing in a pair of other devices, too: The recently announced Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+. Along with those two new announcements, Samsung has also shed some light on the launch plans for Samsung Pay.
The mobile payments option will, as expected, rollout to South Korea first, and that will take place on August 20. After that, Samsung will bring Samsung Pay to the United States on September 28. At some point after that, Samsung Pay will be rolled out to Spain, the United Kingdom and China. It’s worth noting that Samsung Pay will be pre-loaded on the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ when they launch in late August, but the service won’t actually go live until the aforementioned September 28 in the U.S.
  • SIMPLE: To make a payment on Samsung Pay, users can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint and pay.
  • SAFE: Samsung Pay uses tokenization, Samsung KNOX, and fingerprint authentication to provide secure payments and reduce the security risks inherent to plastic cards.
  • VIRTUALLY ANYWHERE: With Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, Samsung Pay works with most existing point-of-sale (POS) terminals. That means it’s the only mobile payment service that works virtually anywhere you can swipe your credit card or debit card.
Lucky Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+, along with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, owners will be able to participate in a Samsung Pay beta trial period that begins August 25, though.
Samsung will be working with American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, along with major banks in the United States such as Bank of America, Chase, and U.S. Bank to make sure that Samsung Pay supports a wide range of financial institutions when it launches in September.
What do you think of Samsung’s Pay effort?
