Michael Barnick, a former Apple executive who retired in 2000, is selling his luxury mansion in California for a staggering $35 million. The 10,100-square-foot property boasts four bedrooms, a gym and swimming pool, gorgeous views of the ocean, and all the gadgetry you could want in your home.
Barnick had been retired for five years when he started designing the oceanfront house in 2005, but he became so involved in home automation gadgetry that he ended up started a new company called Quantum Integration, which installs home automation systems.
Now, Barnick and wife Sujitta no longer need all the space they have, so they are putting the mansion, located in Hope Ranch in California’s Santa Barbara County, on the market for $35 million — along with its 3.7 acres of land.
In addition to four bedrooms, the property has a movie theater that seats 12, an observation deck with hot tub, a swimming pool, gym, fire pit, and tennis court. Perhaps the most unique thing about Barnick’s home is that it’s almost entirely controllable from an iPhone or iPad.
The home’s lighting system, televisions, heating and air-conditioning, gates and garage doors, windows and shades, fireplaces, and door locks can all be controlled remotely using iOS apps.
When you drive up to the gates, the lights turn on in the home and the garage door opens. When you turn on the shower, the towel warmer is also turned on. There are also three aquariums that are programmed to automatically change water temperature and quality.
