For fans of the National Football League, a new service coming to the Apple TV will bring all the broadcasts you want on-demand.
As revealed by a change on the official NFL website, it appears that the organization is going to be changing things up in a big way, as far as content availability via platforms goes. As MacRumors notes, the NFL looks to be dropping its current Game Rewind service, which is available in the United States, and will be replacing it with what’s called “Game Pass.” This will roll into the pre-existing NFL Mobile app for the iPad and iPhone, so nothing will change there.
The Game Rewind service will cease to exist beginning on July 31, 2015, and be replaced by Game Pass.
As revealed by the platform selection, with NFL Game Pass Apple TV owners will finally be able to gain access to on-demand game broadcasts, something that has been missing from the set-top box up until the upcoming launch of Game Pass. There is an NFL Now channel for the Apple TV, but that content is not on-demand full game broadcasts, so this will be a nice addition for Apple TV owners.
With Game Pass, subscribers will be able to tune into most pre-season live games, not including the games that are nationally broadcast (like on network stations), as well as have access to on-demand games from the regular season and Playoffs. The Super Bowl will also be available for viewing through the service, one day after their TV broadcast.
Pricing for Game Pass isn’t listed on the site, however, it will be available in the United States, Antigua, Bermuda, the U.S. territories, possessions and commonwealths, as well as Mexico.
What do you think of the Apple TV addition?
