EU concludes its investigation into Apple Music; finds no evidence of collusion with music labels

Before Apple launched its music streaming service, many government regulatory bodies started investigating the company to make sure that it did not take unfair advantage of its size and position to get a better deal from music labels or kill other streaming services in the market.
The European Union was among the many bodies that had started investigating Apple for Apple Music, and its investigation has now finally concluded. The body says that it has not found any evidence which suggests that Apple may have used its position and power to thwart competition. The EU, however, will continue to monitor the streaming market for any illegal activity from any of the players.
The trade publication Mlex, which closely tracks the regulatory issues, first reported that the EU had found no evidence of misconduct in its streaming music inquiry. The European investigators’ files will remain open as licensing talks continue between Spotify and some of the major labels, sources said.
Additionally, the EU has asked Spotify and other music streaming services to provide them with information about the various restrictions that Apple has imposed on them for selling their app through the iOS App Store. The FTC is also probing Apple for its App Store policies that give it an unfair advantage over other music streaming services.
