A judge has dismissed a group lawsuit against Apple that focused on an issue with iMessage not delivering text messages to those that switched platforms.
Early last year, an issue came into light that saw former iOS users unable to receive text messages from those that were still using iOS. The problem stemmed from iMessage, which tried to send an iMessage rather than a text message, despite the fact that the person had switched to Android (or another platform like Windows Phone). While deactivating iMessage before switching platforms usually worked for most switchers, it wasn’t common knowledge back then, or a seemingly unnecessary step while switching away from iOS.
Methods on fixing the issue quickly showed up, even months after the initial reports surfaced, and a lawsuit was put together at the tail-end of 2014 as well. However, that was short-lived, as U.S. District Judge Lucy H. Koh has put a stop to the group lawsuit against iMessage, according to Bloomberg.
The dismissal of the lawsuit, according to Judge Koh, is due to the plaintiffs being unable to provide evidence of proper interference. This means that Apple won’t have to actually move against the lawsuit in court.
However, it’s not a secret that these switcher issues with iMessage still exist. Apple is adamant that those switching away from iOS/iMessage deactivate the feature within Settings before they make the switch, effectively turning off the service before they send/receive another text message, while also switching to another platform at the same time. Requesting to have a user’s phone number removed from iMessage altogether is still the best methodology, though.
Have you ever had issues with iMessage?
